The Gardens of the Oltrarno District

The Oltrarno houses some of the most beautiful gardens in Florence. Thinking about the gardens of Oltrarno dosen`t just mean the majestic Boboli garden, but also other smaller and extremely polished gardens as the Iris garden and the Roses garden. If your stay in Florence has so far been spent in visiting museums and art galleries, it has now arrived the moment to go to the Oltrarno district and have a look at some of its "open air museums".

If you are interested in folowing the itinerary of the Oltrarno gardens and especially if your holidays in Florence are not long enough to visit all the gardens, start with the most famous one: the Boboli garden. You might even decide to pass the whole afternoon in this park, which reunites in itself art and natural beauties. The simple pleasure to chat and walk around the garden is a sufficient reason to go visit it. Then, if you think at all its monuments, you`ll understand you won`t be able to go back home without being here.

Are you on holiday in Florence during the spring? Walk all the way up to Piazzale Michelangelo and take a look to the Iris garden, the flower which is the symbol of the city. Keep going form here to the San Miniato hill to visit the Roses garden as well. You will be witness of a double spectacole: you`ll have the chance to enjoy a breath taking view of Florence and you`ll be surrounded by the colours of the many verieties of roses.

You can appreciate an amazing veiw of Florence from the terrasse of the Bardini garden as well. The terrasse is right at the top of a baroque staircase all enriched by six fountains at its sides surrounded by flowerbeds: can you imagine a better background to take some pictures? You will then spend your evening looking at them in your apartment in Florence ? The Torrigiani garden is set right in the heart of Oltrarno: with its six hectares it is the authentic green lung of the district. If you are walking around the squares and streets in Oltrarno, pop in via del Campuccio to visit this garden before you go back to the apartment you have rented in Florence.
