The apartment is situated in the district of Santa Croce, just a few dozen metres from the homonymous church, which houses the tombs of many important Italian artists, writers and scientists, including Michelangelo, Niccolò Machiavelli, Galileo Galilei, Gioacchino Rossini and Leon Battista Alberti.

Every year, in June, the square in front of the church hosts the matches of "calcio storico" - also known as "calcio in costume" because players wear a medieval garb - between the teams representing Florence four historic quarters: Santa Croce, San Giovanni, Santo Spirito and Santa Maria Novella.

The lively district is also rich in restaurants and trattorias serving steaks Florentine style, ribollita and other famous dishes of the Florentine traditional cuisine.
