Chiusi Holidays @ Chiusi - Ancient Etruscan Town
Like many other Tuscan cities,
Chiusi boasts Etruscan origins, testified by the numerous Etruscan tombs scattered in the countryside and the tunnels running beneath the town. In fact, it was one of the twelve members of the Etruscan league. Under the king Porsenna,
Chiusi constituted a threat for Rome, which eventually conquered the ancient Tuscan town at the beginning of the 3rd century B.C..
After having been occupied by the Goth in 540 and by the Longobards in 776, in the 12th century
Chiusi became an episcopal town. Member of the Republic of
Siena since the 14th century, in 1559
Chiusi was annexed to the
Grand Duchy of Tuscany

Chiusi
The 6th-century Cathedral has been recently restructured and very little Roman elements have been left. Chiusi`s National Etruscan Museum is one of the most important museums in Italy. The Romanesque church of San Francesco and the Palazzo Vescovile are worth a visit, like the Etruscan tombs in the countryside, the most important being the tomb of the Pellegrina and the tomb of the Monkey.
