Art and Culture in Tuscany
Tuscany is probably the most famous and visited of all Italian regions.
Florence and its monuments are certainly Tuscany`s main attractions, but this region, so rich in
history and
culture is reknown for its food and wines, as well.
Tuscany is rich not only in
cities of art, like Pisa, Siena and Lucca; Tuscany is reknown for its coast, as well: the popular Riviera della Versilia, the coast around Livorno with the magnificent "Spiagge bianche" in Vada, the Argentario area, the Elba isle and the other islands of the Tuscan archipelago.
Speaking of Tuscany means speaking of the hilly region of Florentine and Sienese Chianti, the impressive landscapes of the Sienese Crete, Val d`Orcia, Mugello and Casentino and the gorgeous Maremma.
Tuscany is famous for its
folkloric events: from Florence`s Calcio Storico to the famous Palio of Siena, from the Gioco del Ponte (Bridge Game) to the Giostra del Saracino (Saracen`s Joust), Tuscany offers many occasions to take a leap into the past.
Travelling to Tuscany means also tasting Tuscan
savoury dishes, accompanied by some Chianti or Brunello di Montalcino.
Those who love
shopping have an embarrassingly wide choice among clothes, the jewels by the goldsmiths of Arezzo, the precious handmade Florentine papers and the pieces of pottery and alabaster issued by the skilled craftmen of Siena and Volterra.
Those who love
sports can sail, do some trekking, ski on the mountains around Pistoia or dedicate to scuba diving.
