Poggio a Caiano Medici Villa is surrounded by a big park.. We can enter its main part by walking through a classic style loggia (16th century) decorated with a white and light-blue painted terra cotta fret attributed to Sansovino. During the centuries the villa has been centre of some famous episodes such as the misterious death of Francesco I and Bianca Cappello (1587), the insanity of Margherita Luisa d`Orléans, wife of Cosimo III, and the hiddened meetings between Vittorio Emanuele II and the duchess Mirafiori. On the low ground we find the apartaments of Bianca Cappello. On the first floor we can recognize the changes introduced by Vittorio Emanuele II: in particular a very big room as high as to to reach the second floor. At this level we can find some precious masterpieces of the Mannerism such as the works of Andrea del Sarto and Pontormo, with fresco paintings whose subjects refer to Roman history and mythology . Very nteresting to visit are also the apartaments of Vittorio Emanuele II .
