Historical Villas of Florence : Villa La Petraia

Villa La Pietraia
Villa Petraia belonged first to Brunelleschi, then to Strozzi and lastly was bought by Medici family. From the 13th to the 16th century Villa Petraia was a rustic farmhouse provided with a hill fort, some stables and an oven. Around the half of the 16th century Ferdinando de’ Medici commissioned Buontalenti so that he would change this farmhouse in a patrician villa: the result was a magnificent villa that has been enriched until the 19th century. With Vittorio Emanuele II, who changed the innern furniture, it became a private residence. Today Villa La Petraia is provided with a splendid italian garden and a wide english garden
