Historical Florentine Villas:
Villa La Ferdinanda

It was built by Buontalenti at the end of the 16th century for wish of Ferdinando I de` Medici. The villa was built in order to respect what should be its main function: a dwelling place during hunt time. This is why the villa is overtoped by a big presence of chimneys while being free from particular ornaments. The absence of a private garden proves that La Ferdinanda was not built in order to be a residence. The wood surrounding the villa, called Montalbano wood, is what we can recognize as its park. Today, in the underground area is situated a museum containing etruscan and roman finds brought to light in the near village of Artimino. As a matter of fact, in the nearby of the villa we can find some etruscan necropolis. Moreover, experts generally think that between the 7th and the 2nd century B.C., because of the tombs and goldsmith objects finds (similar in style to the ones of Volterra and Fiesole), there was a little village in the area extending from villa La Ferdinanda and Artimino.
