The streets and the squares in the Oltrarno district

The streets and the squares in Oltrarno are the life and soul of the district: people meet here at the markets, chat in the bars and shops and admire while walking the beautiful palaces. A stroll around the streets of the Oltrarno district is the best way to spend a day in the sunshine during your holiday in Florence.

Borgo San Jacopo is one of the liveliest streets in Oltrarno. Its historical shops, among which you`ll find restorers, artistic primts, restaurants appreciated by the very Florentines, will make you feel the taste of the true Florentine atmosphere.

A full-blown open air museum is via Maggio. You will be strolling around looking up at the wonderful palaces and tryng to get a glimpse of the inner courts and of the luxury apartments in Florence

Pitti square is probably the most famous square in Oltrarno. If you have planned to spend the afternoon visiting the museums of the Pitti palace, just take one moment in the middle of this enourmpous square to take some pictures of the palace choosen by the Medici as their home.

If you feel like a relaxing break, the ideal is to seat in a bar in Santo Spirito square for a coffee or have a walk around the market, if you happen to be there on the right day.

To end up nicely your day and maybe your holidays in Florence, walk all the way up to Piazzale Michelangelo to indulge in the magnificent view of the city. If you are too tired to walk, you can get there by bus, but be sure you won`t miss the panorama at the sunset.
