The Churches in the district of Oltrarno d`Oltrarno

Every church in Oltrarno hosts treasures of priceless value: visiting churches in Oltrarno is then kind of visiting small museums and admire their works of art of unique beauty in their own environment. If your holiday apartment in Florence happens to be exactly in Oltrarno, there will be a church near your place: start visiting the closest one and you`ll see it is worth it.

If your holiday in Florence is but a short stay, make sure you cane see in the San Frediano district, the Cappella Brancacci in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine: its walls with frescos by Masaccio and Masolino are an unforgettable spectacle to be enjoyed in the silence and tranquillity of the church.

As you keep strolling in the San Frediano district, just call at the Church of San Frediano in Cestello: you can tell it is the right one from the unfinished facade. If you briefly go in you`ll be impressed by the brightness due to the light plasterwork and the wide windows of the dome.

If you find yourself in the city centre, walk over the Old Bridge and take the chance to pop in Santa Felicita Church: not only will you be able to admire the Pontormo`s manieristic masterpice, but, if you look up, you`ll see the stretch of the Vasari Corridor crossing the church.

The Church of Santo Spirito will stun you for it exstreme semplicity and originality of its facade. If you have been walking around Florence all day, take a break in the square opposite the church and sit in one of the bars of the square: a coffee break in such a frame will surely taste something else!
