Florence - Santa Maria Novella and its Neighbourhood: Ponte Santa Trinita
Bartolomeo Ammannati built the
Ponte Santa Trinita in 1567 by order of Cosimo I. "Santa Trinita" is the Florentine version for the Italian "Santa Trinità", which means Holy Trinity. The German destroyed the bridge during their 1944 hasty withdrawal from Florence.

Ponte Santa Trinita
Instead of building a new bridge, the Florentine engineers decided to reconstruct the Ponte Santa Trinita as it was originally, using the same stones and statues fished out the Arno river. The works ended in 1958.
For a long time it was thought that lacking statue by Francavilla representing "Spring" had been stolen by the soldiers during the liberation, but in 1961 it was found in the Arno river.
