Florence - San Lorenzo and its Neighbourhood

The district of San Lorenzo is the symbol of the Medici dynasty. Here, the Basilica of San Lorenzo was built by order of the Medici family. The Cappelle Medicee (Medici Chapels) and the Cappella dei Principi (Chapel of the Princes) are the burial places of the most important members of the family. The Basilica of San Lorenzo stands not too far from Palazzo Medici Riccardi the Medici`s Renaissance residence.

North of the Basilica, there is the fruit and vegetable market built in the 19th century.

San Lorenzo is one of Florence most characteristic districts. Far from the most renowned attractions, the district of San Lorenzo with the stands of the open market and its cafés and its small bed and breakfasts full of students and people coming from all over the world, is immersed in a fascinating popular atmosphere.
