Architecture Florence - Michelangelo @ Michelangelo`s Architecture in Florence
The famous Tuscan artist Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) was mainly a sculptor and painter, but he dedicated to architecture, as well.
He had already worked in Rome, when in 1516 he was charged with the achievement of San Lorenzo`s façade. The project was then abandoned and Michelangelo dedicated to the Sagrestia Nuova - or New Sacristy. This is part of the funerary chapels of the Medici family in the Curch of San Lorenzo. Michelangelo worked to the Sagrestia Nuova until 1534, then left it unfinished.

Biblioteca Laurenziana
Michelangelo was also charged with the project of the Biblioteca Laurenziana - or Laurentian Library. As it had already happened, the artist did not complete his work and he went back to Rome before it was finished.
The special solutions Michelangelo adopted make it a precursor of Mannerism.
