San Casciano Museums - Museum of Sacred Art

Museum of Sacred Art in San Casciano

The museum is located in the church of Santa Maria di Gesł, which was once a monastery of Benedictine nuns. Among the most important works of art exposed in the museum, a Madonna with Child by Lippo di Benivieni, a Coronation of the Virgin by Neri di Bicci, representations of Saint Roch, Saint Sebastian and Saint Anthony the Abbot by the Master of Tavarnelle (early 16th century), a beautiful wooden crucifix of attributable to the 14th-century Sienese school.

In the oratory the most valuable works of art are to be admired: an altar-cloth representing Saint Michael Archangel by Coppo di Marcovaldo, a Madonna with Child by Ambrogio Lorenzetti and other paintings by Jacopo del Casentino, Cenni di Francesco, Pier Dandini and others, together with a small group of sculptures. On the first floor, there is a section dedicated to golden objects and vestments.
