The museums nearby the Duomo



Art and culture in Florence are like one of the family and, especially in the city centre, in the area nearby the Duomo the museums and the collections you can visit seem to never end. Paintings, sculptures, ancient buildings, luxury apartments: your thirst for knowledge will be surely quenched. In walking distance form the Duomo, you`ll find the Bargello Musem. If you want to have an overview of the Reinassance sculpture, you absolutely have to come here: you`ll see works by Michelangelo, donatello and Verrocchio. If you have different interests, the Sala dell`Armeria (armoury room), or the Islamic Room might intrigue you. All in all you`ll have tons of things to see and maybe it could be a good idea to plan to spend a whole afternoon here at the Bargello.

If the works of art by Donatello have impressed you, then you should continue your visit with the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, where one of the largest collections in the world of works by Donatello is host, besides a collection of works of art from the Duomo, the Baptistery, and the Giotto`s Belltower. The entrance to the museum is right at the back of the Cathedral. If you are walking around the historical centre of Florence, why don`t you go in and take a look?

Something different form art galleries to go visit? The National Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology in the Unfinished Palace in via del Proconsolo.

One curiosity? The Museum "House of Dante" in via Santa Margherita, one of the oldest parts of the historical centre. The house has been rebuilt during the first decade of the XX century where, on the basis of a consistent documentation, the original building used to be.
